Shakes & Fidget
Here's a fun little game/time waster that you can run in another window/tab while doing other things on your PC (like GW). I figured though that folks interested in GW would find some interest in this game as well.
Shakes & Fidget
a bit of a brief explanation:
It’s basically a character creation game in which you 'quest' for gold, XP and gear to better your toon and then pit your toon/stats against other players and npc’s. You can create guilds which do provide some $$ and XP bonuses as well as be involved in guild battles. They've also indicated; coming soon, guild dungeon quests.
There is no active play! You basically set/select and then let it run (often in another tab/window).
A brief overview of classes/races:

The game does have a feature that they try to suck you in with and that’s mushrooms. When you sign up and activate your account through an email conformation, you’ll get a total 25 mushrooms to begin with. When questing (go to tavern and pick one of the 3 quests based on $$, XP or possible items) you get a chance to obtain a mushroom (18% w/o a mount, 15% w/ a mount i believe it is). Many items throughout the game can cost mushrooms and any ‘fast tracking’ situations will too but of course the cost far outweighs the return. They of course have an option in-game where you can ‘purchase’ mushrooms which is where they make their money. THIS DOESN'T MEAN YOU HAVE TO SPEND REAL $$. I’m of course a free player and take my chances with the new day refresh of items or quests etc. All this translates into is a slower progression (never the less, I always enjoy this sort of thing. Same with GW – building toons/ stats etc and seeing how they do).
You can mouse over most things to see details and I’d use the forums link at the top of the web page to view the FAQ etc (most stuff is covered).
Just a quick reminder though to validate the email address since it will give you 10 free bonus mushrooms and they're quite useful at the begining (if you ask me, the best 'quick' start is to take the Griffin from the stable which will double the number of quests you can do in a day which leads to more xp and gold at the start).
Have fun!

so how'd it turn out?
if you want my suggestions:
get a mount right away - the griffin can be obtained if you validate the email address. if you go the route of the griffin, you'll slowly earn mushrooms back for later use (not too many things are worth spending mushrooms on at the beginning). By getting the mount, you increase the number of quests you can do in a day therefore increasing your gold/xp return.
use the hall of fame to farm other players for both honor and wins in the arena. pay attention to the level of honor and player lvls before you try to farm the next bump. until that point, farm low lvl folks to increase the your number of wins. I'd suggest, based on the length of the quest (assuming >10 mins), farm the hall, quest, farm the hall, quest and so on.
stat only in 3 categories (at the beginning). Your primary (strength for Warrior, Intelligence for Mage and Dexterity for Scout), constitution (hp) and luck (% chance for critical dmg on that strike- x2 the value). Everything else isn't as big a deal until much later on.
hope this is of some help!

ouch! This is dying a slow painful death isn't it?
quiet board lately with GW1 aging and GW2 on the horizon? Not an often viewed section of the forums? No interest in the game?
I swear this was right up most GW player's alley (building a great character, looking for better/epic gear, putting your 'build' up against others etc).
If I'm barking up the wrong tree, let me know and I'll shush. I was just enjoying this and hoped to drag a few more folks in to the mix and have some discussions over the whole deal.

I went to the site and created a character, but didn't get to do any quests yet.

nice!
don't forget to validate the email conformation and then log out/ log back in. You'll get the extra 10 mushrooms to start (should have 25 of them after validating).
let me know whatcha think!

I started yesterday at work, I can take a quest and do what ever I need to do work-wise and do another quest as I am able. Still in the newb stage.

This is exactly how I do it.
get in for 8am - farm the hall of fame first for a low level character to get a quick win (# of wins attribute bonus) then a quest (which is usually long enough to go back and farm the hall after it's complete), rinse & repeat.
I tend to check the shops out after doing the quest chains (or at least weigh the importance of an item) so I'm not spending $$/Mushrooms just in case I get something similar or better from a quest (not to mention the chance of earning more mushrooms through questing).
I usually finish around 10:30/11 and then set the guard for 10hrs. Around 9pm I hope on for a sec to reset the guard (and usually spend the gold I just earned on bumping my stats) and repeat the following day.
glad to hear you're checking it out though. Any questions, let me know.

doesn't it though!
I do have to say that I may not be the most patient person in the world and waiting till the next day to quest for gear or browse through the shops seems to never come quick enough.

Nice toon Rocky!
Anyone else giving this a go? I'd love to hear some character names to check them out.
If you're interested; my main is Ladybug.
